Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the knife?

The blade is about 14 cm, the knife is about 26.5 cm overall and it weighs about 93 g. That makes it a compact santoku for everyday vegetables, fruit and small cuts of meat, and it is easy to store in a drawer. If you prepare large roasts or big cabbages often, a longer knife may suit you better.

What is the artwork and is it on both sides?

The cover carries full-colour cat artwork by illustrator Jyuno from the mofusand series, and the reverse side shows a different design from the front. Shark Yan is blue with a cat in a shark costume, and Shrimp Yan is orange with a cat holding a fried shrimp, and each design is named on its cover in friendly lettering.

Is it a real working knife?

Yes. The blade is stainless steel with a double bevel, so it is sharpened on both sides, and the knife is suitable for right- and left-handed use. The handle is polypropylene and thermoplastic rubber for a secure grip. Use it on a wood or soft plastic board and keep the edge protected with its cover.

Does it come ready to give as a gift?

Yes. Each knife arrives in a decorative box printed in a design that matches the knife, so it is ready to hand over without extra wrapping. Choose Shark Yan in blue or Shrimp Yan in orange, depending on the person you are buying for and the character they prefer. No extra wrapping paper is needed.

How should I care for the knife?

Wash the blade soon after use, dry it fully and slide the cover back on before storing it. The cover is made of PVC with a polypropylene blade-tip cover, and it protects the edge and the artwork between uses, so the knife stays neat in the drawer. When the edge softens, you can resharpen the blade with a whetstone.

How is this knife shipped and when will it arrive?

We ship directly from Japan, and delivery takes 7-14 business days. Any item with a shelf life ships with a minimum of 6 months remaining. Tracking is provided so you can follow your parcel from our shipping point to your door. Your knife is packed carefully so the blade arrives safely and ready for your kitchen.
