Frequently Asked Questions

Where is this knife made?

Our Nyammy cat santoku is made in China, and we ship every knife directly from Japan. We began in 1908 in Seki City, Gifu, and we design this series in Japan. The country of origin and the materials are listed plainly in the specifications, so you know exactly what you are getting before you order it.

What is the blade like?

The blade is stainless knife steel, 16.5 cm long, with a silicone-polyester non-stick coating and a double-edged profile. A cat and a row of paw prints are printed on it, spaced 1 cm apart, so they also work as a rough cutting guide. The knife weighs 105 g and feels very light in the hand when you cut.

Which colours are available?

The knife comes in two colours with the same body and care: a warm grey cat, model AB5805, and a black cat, model AB5801. The grey one is supplied through a third-party seller and the black one by Amazon, and both are shown with their own prices so you can compare them before you order.

How sharp is it?

Owners say it cuts well for the price, and one was surprised when it cut cardboard so easily on its first use. Another thinks of it as a casual, low-cost knife. Because it is sharp, handle it with care, and use a wood or soft board to protect the coating and the thin edge of the blade.

How do I care for it?

Wash it by hand with a soft sponge and warm water, then dry it. The handle is polypropylene and heat resistant to 110 C. Avoid cutting bones or frozen foods, and store it where the point will not be knocked, so that the coating and the edge last as long as possible in your kitchen.

How is this knife shipped and when will it arrive?

We ship directly from Japan, and delivery takes 7-14 business days. Any item with a shelf life ships with a minimum of 6 months remaining. Tracking is provided so you can follow your parcel from our shipping point to your door. Your knife is packed carefully so the blade arrives safely and ready for your kitchen.
