Umezawa Ancient Sugi Cedar Handmade Wooden Bento Lunch Box

Product Overview

Experience the peak of Japanese culinary tradition with the Umezawa Ancient Sugi Cedar Handmade Wooden Bento Lunch Box. This exceptional vessel is crafted from rare Jindai Sugi, or Ancient Cedar, which has been naturally preserved for centuries. This unique timber offers unparalleled moisture-regulating properties, ensuring your rice remains fluffy and your side dishes stay perfectly textured throughout the day.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Each bento box is painstakingly handmade by master artisans at Umezawa Wood Works in Mie Prefecture. By utilizing centuries-old joinery techniques, the artisans create a durable yet lightweight container that showcases the deep, rich grain of the ancient wood. The smooth finish is achieved through expert hand-sanding, requiring no chemical coatings to maintain its natural beauty and integrity.

Natural Preservation

Ancient Sugi cedar is naturally rich in essential oils that act as a biological antibacterial agent. This prevents food spoilage and keeps your meals fresher for longer periods compared to plastic or metal alternatives. The porous nature of the cedar breathes with your food, absorbing excess steam from warm rice to prevent sogginess while maintaining the ideal humidity for flavor preservation.

Sustainable Luxury

Umezawa is dedicated to the ethical sourcing of Japanese timber. By repurposing ancient cedar and utilizing sustainable forestry practices, this bento box represents a conscious choice for the eco-friendly consumer. It is a biodegradable, long-lasting alternative to disposable containers, designed to be a lifetime companion for your daily meals.

Care Instructions

To maintain the integrity of the ancient wood, hand wash only with mild soap and a soft sponge. Avoid soaking the box in water for extended periods. After washing, wipe with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry thoroughly in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
